Driven and dedicated to what I want to do. I can generally be a quiet person, but I also love to be loud and crazy with my friends. Since my first semester here I’ve worked for The State News as a reporter for the campus desk. I’m also a member of the Honors College.
When I first arrived I was intimidated and excited. The campus felt so huge and it didn’t help that I was 700 miles from home. But, after a couple of weeks, I got used to the campus and made some great friends. MSU is now my new home and I’m loving it!
College courses are expectedly more difficult and there’s a lot more reading to do. You’re choosing your own classes, so if you don’t like it, it’s your own fault! You know what you’re getting into ahead of time as well, so it’s easier to plan your semester.
The State News is Michigan State’s daily student paper. I wanted to be a reporter so I could pursue my journalism career and continue growing in the field. I couldn’t ask for a better learning environment — it’s the best hands-on education I could ever find.
I like to go to movie nights at Wells Hall. They’re always fun, easy to get to because they are right on campus and the best part — they’re free! There’s good live theater too. A few weekends back I saw “The Lion King” at the Wharton Center on campus…and it was amazing! I’m a big theatre buff.
It’s hard being so far away some days, but I honestly wouldn’t change it. I’m learning so much more about myself, because I can’t generally run to my parents at the first sign of trouble. You have more responsibility for yourself, which can be a burden and an advantage at the same time. Whenever I feel a little homesick, I just think about the whole situation and realize that I love being on campus and couldn’t imagine myself going to any other school than Michigan State.

I just love the ducks down by the Red Cedar River near Wells Hall. I try to feed them every now and then.

This is me at my desk in the newsroom at The State News – hard at work on an article.

These were my fall 2005 co-workers from The State News Campus desk.
