My major…

All my life sports have been a big deal. My roommate Jen and I are MSU fans to the core! So when I began thinking about what I was going to major in I looked into sports journalism. I’ve always noticed there aren't many female sports journalists on TV and I would really like to change that.

Working the Izzone…

I’m proud to say I haven't missed a basketball game since I started at MSU. My freshman year I asked one of the directors of the Izzone (the student cheering section) how I could help out and she asked me to be a section leader. It’s fun because I get to arrive early and help set things up for the other students. Last year I became a co-director, so now I do things like organize the Izzone Campout — the most memorable event of the year. Students set up tents on Munn Field, play football and Frisbee, cook out and visit with friends. For the past few years Tom Izzo has camped out too and members of the basketball team have stopped by to hang out with the fans. This year I also helped organize the annual away game road trip. We rented a bus and drove a big group of students to the Northwestern game.

A tip for new students…

It’s good to be in Brody Complex. That’s where Jen and I live. Everyone thinks Brody must be bad because that’s where most of the first-year students end up. Well, I love it. The rooms are huge; you never have to clean the bathrooms; and when you're a sophomore, you can park your car right outside your room. As a floor, we do activities like bowling and billiards. As a hall, we have karaoke night, movie nights and Study Bucks. If a resident mentor sees you studying in your room, they give you Study Bucks that you can enter in a raffle to win things like digital cameras, iPods and TVs.

Hometown: Clarkston, Mich.
Major: Hospitality Business
Class of 2008

Me in a nutshell…

I’m fun. I love to make people laugh. I’m a hospitality business major, which is the best and is so interesting. I’m obsessed with MSU sports — like my roommate Allison.

Being independent…

I’ve lived in the Brody Complex for two years — my freshman year in Armstrong Hall and this year in Emmons Hall with Allison. It’s mostly freshmen in Brody, so your first year is great because everyone is in the same boat. We’re all learning about time management; doing our own laundry; and if you don’t go up when your alarm clock sounds, mom won’t be banging on the door as a backup.

Giving campus tours…

During the first couple of weeks of my freshman year, I received an e-mail asking people if they wanted to become a tour guide. So I went to the orientation, did the training and now I’m a member of SAF (Student Alumni Foundation). I do things like schedule group tours and take prospective students and their parents on walking tours of campus. I also help run the Inside MSU program, which gives high school seniors who have already been accepted to MSU a sneak peak at life as a Spartan. It’s important to me, because when I came to visit MSU everyone was really nice and helpful. I want the visitors I interact with now to have the same great experience.

Fun stuff…

There are so many things going on campus its crazy! I recently went to the Kanye West concert at the Breslin Center and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to (9th row tickets). During Homecoming week, I went to Battle of the Beats that was organized by the University Activities Board. It was a freestyle rap battle and the winner got a trip to New York City. It was fun because everyone got really into it. My absolute favorite thing is MSU basketball games. The Izzone, MSU’s student section, is so loud and makes the Breslin Center one of the most intimidating places to play in college basketball. No matter who we’re playing I know that it’s going to be an exciting game.
